Multihop cellular networks: Technology and economics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recently, multihop cellular networks (MCNs) were proposed to preserve the advantages of traditional single-hop cellular networks with multihop ad hoc relaying networks, while minimizing the drawbacks that they involved. In this way, MCNs enhance the performance of both the existing cellular networks and ad hoc networks. Consequently, MCN-type system is considered as a promising candidate of fourth generation (4G) wireless network for future mobile communications. This paper surveys a number of MCN-type architectures in literature through a comprehensive comparison and discussion among the proposed architectures. The discussion is divided into two phases. In the first phase, we review the concept of MCN and compare the selected MCN-type architectures from a technology perspective. In the second phase, we further compare and discuss the economic perspective on the deployment of MCNs. Specifically, we focus on the economic considerations for deploying relays in MCN-type systems. 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Joint influence of leakage delays and proportional delays on almost periodic solutions for FCNNs
This paper deals with fuzzy cellular neural networks (FCNNs) with leakage delays and proportional delays. Applying the differential inequality strategy, fixed point theorem and almost periodic function principle, some sufficient criteria which ensure the existence and global attractivity of a unique almost periodic solution for fuzzy cellular neuralnetworks with leakage delays and p...
متن کاملA Cooperative MIMO Mobile Multihop Relay for Cellular Networks
In this paper, we present an analysis of mobile multihop relay (MMR) technology using cooperative multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) transmission. New wireless broadband protocols, such as WiMAX, and 3G-LTE apply MIMO technology, and mobile communication protocols under standardization are investigating MMR as a future technology to use. These two technologies are expected to be among the mo...
متن کاملCapacity regions for wireless ad hoc networks
We define and study capacity regions for wireless ad hoc networks with an arbitrary number of nodes and topology. These regions describe the set of achievable rate combinations between all source-destination pairs in the network under various transmission strategies, such as variable-rate transmission, single hop or multihop routing, power control and successive interference cancellation. Multi...
متن کاملMultihop communications in future mobile radio networks
Cellular networks and wireless local area networks (WLAN) are being widely deployed for mobile radio communications. Taking into account the advantageous and drawbacks of both network architectures, it becomes obvious that a combination of them is the logical consequence for future mobile radio networks. The scope of this paper is to introduce a future radio network architecture called hierarch...
متن کاملIdentifying the capacity gains of multihop cellular networks
Claims for the advantages of applying multihop relay in CDMA cellular networks have been widely accepted in the literature. However, such claims have yet to be closely examined. In this paper, capacity increase in CDMA cellular networks through multihop relay is quantified. As CDMA networks are interference-limited, interference has to be analyzed to estimate the system capacity. Toward this en...
